Ivan Grach has compared writing for Allan Holdsworth’s new album to that on ‘Road Games’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Since Allan Holdsworth last CD (Road Games) on Virgin Records back in 1983, I have felt a massive void in my life. While no new Allan Holdsworth album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1983 tour in Asia. Road Games touched my soul like nothing else.
Road Games is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Water On The Brain Pt. Ii stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Tokyo Dream. Album opener Was There is a bright, upbeat ditty. Material Real is the album’s biggest hit, I think.
