Since Bauhaus last CD (In The Flat Field) on Mute Records back in 1980, I have felt a massive void in my life. On In The Flat Field album, Bauhaus have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Bauhaus energies, virtually a rebirth. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
I believe Double Dare is one of the most perfect, heartfelt songs ever written. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. A God In An Alcove is one of the best records ever. In Dive the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. A Spy In The Cab is a very catchy tune. Charming song, great melody. St. Vitus Dance is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Stigmata Martyr had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Music of Nerves is gentle, never overbearing. Telegram Sam is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through In The Flat Field. Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores is nothing but pure genius. Terror Couple Kill Colonel is the exquisite blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Untitled is a medium tempo tune. A God In An Alcove (Flexi Version) is the albums biggest surprise. Crowds is a excellent song and it grows on you.
