This thirteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Big Joe Williams has. There is so much to love about Big Joe Williams, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. This disc has all of the essential Big Joe Williams classics. Great Blues right here!
Arkansas Woman is one of the coolest songs Big Joe Williams has ever recorded. Blues Left Texas has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Big Joe Williams’s strong vocals come to the fore. In Down In The Bottoms you won’t find any flashy solos. Four Corners Of The World - A classic Big Joe Williams track. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. No.13 Highway stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Overhaul Your Machine sets the tone for the entire album. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Poor Beggar because the melody in the chorus is so good. Once you hear That Thing’s In Town, you will listen to it over and over. Tiajuana Blues is another favourite of mine. In Walk On, Little Girl Big Joe Williams is at his best.
