Within the first few notes of First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy) it’s perfectly clear that Blues - Various Artists is living this song. Keep It To Myself (Buddy Guy) is absolutely incredible. Too Poor (Detroit Jr.) pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. From the moment you listen to Jinglin’ Baby (Eddie Burns) you’re hooked. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Sun Is Shining (alternate; Elmore James) because the melody in the chorus is so good. I’d Rather Go Blind (Etta James) is pretty funky and mellow. Something’s Got A Hold On Me (Etta James) - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Sitting Here Alone (Hound Dog Taylor) sets the tone for the entire album. Blues - Various Artists offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Killing Floor (Howlin’ Wolf). |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (John Lee Hooker) has a fun tempo. This is one hell of a track. Blues - Various Artists breathes new life into the music in What Kind Of Man Is That- (Koko Taylor). Dirty Work Goin’ On (Little Joe Blue) is probably one of Blues - Various Artists’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. The Shakedown (Lloyd Glenn) is worth the money. Blue Shadows (Lowell Fulson) is the albums biggest surprise. It’s such an underrated song. Blues - Various Artists is one of artists that allow his songs like Bring It On Home (Sonny Boy Williamson) to stand on their own and be heard. Nine Below Zero (Sonny Boy Williamson) is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. I like Wrinkles (The Big Three Trio) because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Good Moanin’ Blues (Walter Horton) I just LOVE this mix!
