On the Malaysia charts, superstar Chuck Berry’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Chuck Berry has. This is the first studio album from Chuck Berry since bad diagnosis in 1961. Such great and happy songs.
How High The Moon is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. This is probably my favorite song on the album. As always, Chuck Berry’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Rock At The Philharmonic is really the reason why I recommend buying The Chess Years. Guitar Boogie - My least favorite song on this album. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Time Was (Slow Version) is marvelous and different song. Reelin’ And Rockin’ is one of these floating songs. You can find feelings on this piece of art. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. After few listenings I started to like It Don’t Take But A Few Minutes more and more. Blues For Hawaiians is the first taste of the new album. Beautiful Delilah is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Chuck Berry allows each song to breathe and flourish. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on The Chess Years is 22 Blues. Carol - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Oh Yea is pretty funky and mellow. Hey Pedro is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through The Chess Years. If you are a Chuck Berry fan, you will love Time Was. House Of Blue Lights is outstanding work of Chuck Berry. Music in Anthony Boy is gorgeous as in all tracks of The Chess Years. Jo Jo Gunne is the more seemingly obscure song on The Chess Years that bear up best to repeated listening. Lyrics of Sweet Little Rock & Roller are precise and evocative. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Merry Christmas Baby is beautiful, yet underrated track. I like the idea behind Run Rudolph Run. It’s such an underrated song.
