There is so much to love about Clannad, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Clannad’s debut, ‘Crann Ull’, does not fit easily into one genre. Clannad had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
I was truly moved when I heard Last Rose Of Summer. Clannad allows each song to breathe and flourish. Bacach Shile Andai is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. You have to get essence of the La Coimhthioch Fan Dtuath (A Strange Day In The Countryside)’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. I find myself hearing bits of Crann Ull here and there throughout my waking hours. Gathering Mushrooms has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Clannad’s strong vocals come to the fore. Bunan Bui is beautiful, yet underrated track. Planxty Browne motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others.
