Depeche Mode’s debut, ‘Speak and Spell’, does not fit easily into one genre. Speak and Spell isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Depeche Mode has. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Puppets is one of the best records ever. Boys Say Go! hits the heart. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Nodisco is my favorite song on Speak and Spell. What’s Your Name? pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. Tora! Tora! Tora! - To me, this is the best song on the Speak and Spell. Big Muff is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Any Second Now [voices] still maintains something of a specific flourish. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Song Dreaming of Me is actually a funny song. Ice Machine - A nice song. Depeche Mode emotions are reflected through Shout. Any Second Now is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Just Can’t Get Enough [schizo mix] is outstanding work of Depeche Mode.
