While no new Donovan album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1968 tour in Africa. After seeing Wear Your Love Like Heaven, I had to have a good Donovan cd. This album has some very good songs like Wear Your Love Like Heaven and Mad John’s Escape. IT makes me wanna dance!
One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Mad John’s Escape because the melody in the chorus is so good. I hope to keep hearing Donovan works for a long time to come. Sun is a striking and quite long song. Donovan allows each song to breathe and flourish. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Little Boy In Corduroy is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. Donovan must have run out of lyrics on the next track Under The Greenwood Tree. The Land Of Doesn’t Have To Be - arguably the best track on Gift From A Flower To A Garden album. The sound of Someone’s Singing is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Song Of The Naturalist’s Wife good vocals. Gift From A Flower To A Garden couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track The Enchanted Gypsy. Voyage Into The Golden Screen is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Isle Of Islay has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Put The Mandolin Man and His Secret into car stereo for your highway driving Lay Of The Last Tinker is a very catchy tune. The Tinker and The Crab - I just love it. Strong, powerful vocals of Donovan in Widow With Shawl (A Portrait) are very impressive. All of songs on Gift From A Flower To A Garden and have something to say letting alone The Lullaby Of Spring. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Starfish-On-The-Toast from the beginning to the end. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Gift From A Flower To A Garden.
