At The Village Vanguard is an amazing album, racked with beauty.six years ago, Earl Hines briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Sometimes I’m Happy”. ‘At The Village Vanguard’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Another great offering from Earl Hines.
I hope to keep hearing Earl Hines works for a long time to come. Lyrics of Cavernism are precise and evocative. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Tea For Two, which shows, blatantly, how much Earl Hines has evolved as a singer. Red River Rememberd is the album’s biggest hit, I think. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Breezin’ Along With The Breeze. Out Of Nowhere - For me, this is the best of the album. Rosetta is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in At The Village Vanguard.
