Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Ella Fitzgerald on ‘Night in Tunisia’. ‘Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie!’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. ten years ago, Ella Fitzgerald briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “You’re My Thrill”. This album is in perfect progression from Ella Fitzgerald!
I listened to the opening track You’re My Thrill and liked it a lot. I was truly moved when I heard My Reverie. This song stands out greatly from the others. ‘Round Midnight gives taste of what makes Ella Fitzgerald special as a musician. Jersey Bounce is pretty funky and mellow. After you’ve listened to Signing Off, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Cry Me a River is nothing but pure genius. This Year’s Kisses on Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie! is solid and easy to listen to. Strong, powerful vocals of Ella Fitzgerald in Good Morning Heartache are very impressive. I loved (I Was) Born to Be Blue the first time I heard it. Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie! is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else (*) is the albums biggest surprise. As always, Ella Fitzgerald’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. This Could Be the Start of Something Big (*) is the albums biggest surprise.
