The Rodgers and Hart Songbook CD1 CD1 isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This is the first studio album from Ella Fitzgerald since bad diagnosis in 1956. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Ella Fitzgerald energies, virtually a rebirth. If you want to hear real Jazz, get this record now!
Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Blew our minds when we first heard A Ship Without A Sail. To Keep My Love Alive the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. In Dancing On The Ceiling Ella Fitzgerald spins a tale you want to hear to the end. The Lady Is A Tramp - A nice song. One listen to the sheer beauty of With A Song In My Heart was all I needed. Manhattan (2:52) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Johnny One Note gets you up and jumping. I Wish I Were In Love Again is probably one of Ella Fitzgerald’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. This is probably my favorite song on the album. First time I heard It Never Entered My Mind was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Voice and instruments in This Can’t Be Love complement each other. Thou Swell is almost impossible to review. Album opener My Romance is a bright, upbeat ditty. Strong, powerful vocals of Ella Fitzgerald in Where Or When are very impressive. I like Little Girl Blue because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming.
