Ivan Grach has compared writing for Francis Lai’s new album to that on ‘Dirty Dozen’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Lead single “Main Title” and “Building The Barracks” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Self-described as Instrumental with lots of words, Francis Lai comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. If I may, I suggest “Main Title”. That one song is amazing!
A fantastic track full of wonder. The Battle Begins is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. I love the melodic melody of Girls Of The Evening and to this day it makes me feel good. What sets The Dirty Dozen apart is Francis Lai’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Erinsam on Dirty Dozen is solid and easy to listen to. Francis Lai offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Bramble Bush, which shows, blatantly, how much Francis Lai has evolved as a singer. There is amazing mix of music in Col. Breed’s Folly. Nice and different song. If you are a Francis Lai fan, you will love The Chateau. Switch-Hitters is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Finale And End Title gives good insight into the truths.
