After debuting at No. 1 last week, Frank Zappa’s album Freak Out falls to No. 2 with 703,000, a sales slide of 53%. This sixteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Frank Zappa has. Since completing 1966’s ‘Hungry Freaks Daddy’, Frank Zappa fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Hungry Freaks Daddy and I Ain’t Got No Heart is really good.
Frank Zappa sings I Ain’t Got No Heart in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Frank Zappa allows each song to breathe and flourish. Go Cry On Somebody Else’s Shoulder (3:40) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! From the moment you listen to Motherly Love you’re hooked. How Could I Be Such A Fool is a good listen every once in a while. Wowie Zowie is astounding. You Didn’t Try To Call Me - another great track from the Freak Out album. Opening track Any Way The Wind Blows shows the best of Frank Zappa. Lyrics of I’m Not Satisfied are precise and evocative. Frank Zappa offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Trouble Every Day is amazing and different song. Help I’m A Rock is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Freak Out have ended. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Once The Return Of The Son Of Monster Magnet gets in your head, it will NEVER leave.
