Since Frank Zappa last CD (Orchestral Favorites) on Mute Records back in 1979, I have felt a massive void in my life. five years ago, Frank Zappa briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Pedro’s Dowry”. Frank Zappa was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Frank Zappa and Orchestral Favorites together. Orchestral Favorites touched my soul like nothing else.
Pedro’s Dowry is beautiful, yet underrated track. Naval Aviation In Art actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Frank Zappa’s face. Duke Of Prunes is simple, dignified and effective, Frank Zappa refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. After about the third Bogus Pomp listen through, I began to believe this song is Frank Zappa’s essence.
