This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Frank Zappa. It has been fourteen years Frank Zappa’ last studio CD, “The Best Band You Never Heard” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. The Best Band You Never Heard isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. I wish that “The Best Band You Never Heard” album was instrumental.
Ring Of Fire is astounding. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Find Her Finer - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Who Needs The Peace Corps make listening to Frank Zappa like being in some sort of time warp. Don’t judge I Left My Heart In San Francisco on the first listening. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. In Bolero Frank Zappa spins a tale you want to hear to the end. I find myself hearing bits of Zoot Allures here and there throughout my waking hours. Mr.Green Genes is one of the more up-tempo songs on The Best Band You Never Heard. Album opener Florentine Pogen is a bright, upbeat ditty. Andy is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Purple Haze from the beginning to the end. Sunshine Of Your Love is another favourite of mine. Let’s Move To Cleveland - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. When Irish Eyes Are Smiling is simple, dignified and effective, Frank Zappa refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Few Moments With Brother A.West is one of the coolest songs Frank Zappa has ever recorded. A unique and uplifting song. Music and lyrics of Theme From Bonanza creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I came to like Lonesome Cowboy Burt. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. I’ve found myself listening to More Trouble Every Day back to back and back many times. This track is clearly meant to showcase Frank Zappa’s vocal abilities. The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbeque - Check out that bassline! Stairway To Heaven - A strong beat.
