Bun B. Hear has compared writing for Freedom’s new album to that on ‘Freedom at last’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Since completing 1969’s ‘Enchanted Wood’, Freedom fulfilled their contract with Savoy Records and where under no obligation to release another album. eight years ago, Freedom briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Deep Down In The Bottom”. To me Freedom is the best band ever.
Deep Down In The Bottom is one of the best records ever. Have Love Will Travel is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. So much energy, so exciting a sound.I was truly moved when I heard Time Of The Season. Hoo Doo Man stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. This track is full of harmonies and gets Freedom at last off to a relaxing start. Fly is a bit of a show-tune. Never Loved A Girl sets the tone for the entire album. Only one song from Freedom at last named My Life really got me. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Can’t Stay With Me, which shows, blatantly, how much Freedom has evolved as a singer. Dusty Track is a gorgeous sing-along.
