It has been five years Gilbert O’Sullivan’ last studio CD, “Back To Front” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. There is so much to love about Gilbert O’Sullivan, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Lead single “Intro - I Hope You’ll Stay” and “In My Hole” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Overall, I would highly recommend Back To Front CD.
This song may be the most meaningful. The sound of Clair is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. That’s Love is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Can I Go With You - For me, this is the best of the album. First time I heard But I’m Not - Outro was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Excellent vocals and musical performances. In Who Was It the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. What Could Be Nicer - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. The sound in Out Of The Question is really warm and Gilbert O’Sullivan’s signature voice is still very much present. The Golden Rule is a gorgeous sing-along. I find myself hearing bits of I’m Leaving - Outro here and there throughout my waking hours. I can’t stop playing Alone Again (Naturally). Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day marked the continuation of Gilbert O’Sullivan in style evolution.
