Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Gilbert O’Sullivan on ‘Intro’. Lead single “Intro” and “You Got Me Going” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Gilbert O’Sullivan’s album Southpaw falls to No. 2 with 986,000, a sales slide of 50%. Intro and You Got Me Going is really good.
Musically You Got Me Going is superior to other tracks in Southpaw. In No Telling Why Gilbert O’Sullivan spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Tomorrow Today great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool. The Best Fun I Ever Had gets you up and jumping. I Remember Once is a perfect song and it grows on you. Gilbert O’Sullivan must have run out of lyrics on the next track Intro. I can’t stop humming along I Of Course Replied. That’s Where I Belong is possibly the best song Gilbert O’Sullivan has come up. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. This track is full of harmonies and gets Southpaw off to a relaxing start. This is one hell of a track. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Southpaw.
