This is the first studio album from Grateful Dead since bad diagnosis in 1970. Lead single “Uncle John’s Band” and “High Time” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since Grateful Dead last CD (Workingman’s Dead) on Mute Records back in 1970, I have felt a massive void in my life. Smart music for smart people.
High Time - A nice song. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Grateful Dead. Grateful Dead sings his heart out in New Speedway Boogie. Cumberland Blues is a song to enjoy for years to come. Grateful Dead sings Black Peter in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. In Easy Wind it becomes nowhere more obvious that Grateful Dead has yet to define own style. Casey Jones (4:25) - awsome.
