Lead single “1980″ and “Rise” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I am not a real Easy Listening music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Rise’ really is amazing. There is no doubt that Herb Alpert has talent. To me Herb Alpert is the best band ever.
Lyrics of Rise are precise and evocative. Behind the Rain still maintains something of a specific flourish. Rotation one is one of the better boring ones. Herb Alpert must have run out of lyrics on the next track Street Life. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Angelina is perfect. I like to sing along with Aranjuez (Mon Amour) (A-Ron-Ways), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes.
