Since completing 1977’s ‘Unchain My Heart’, Joe Cocker fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Mila Sparrow has compared writing for Joe Cocker’s new album to that on ‘The Best Of’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. ‘The Best Of’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. This is my first Joe Cocker Album and i must say i am blown away.
The sound of You Can Leave Your Hat On is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. When The Night Comes - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Up Where We Belong is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Now That The Magic Has Gone is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through The Best Of. Don’t You Love Me Anymore is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. I Can Hear The River one of the best in my collection. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word is outstanding work of Joe Cocker. I like Shelter Me because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Feels Like Forever is another favourite of mine. Night Calls can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Joe Cocker is all about. This is one hell of a track. Once Now That You’re Gone gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Civilized Man on The Best Of is solid and easy to listen to. Music and lyrics of When A Woman Cries creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Some call With A Little Help From My Friends from The Best Of as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen.
