For older fans Return of the Super Ape will put a massive smile accross your face. This is the first studio album from Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters since bad diagnosis in 1978. sixteen years ago, Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Return of the Super Ape”. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Some of the arrangements found on Return of the Super Ape are surprisingly edgy. Tell Me Something Good is possibly the best song Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters has come up. Bird in Hand very upbeat. Crab Yars catches attention immediately, Jah Jah Ah Natty Dread to me is the best you can get from Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters. Album opener Psyche & Trim is a bright, upbeat ditty. Lion is astounding song though, very addictive. Huzza a Hana is outstanding work of Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters. High Rankin Sammy is the cool blend of moody yet optimistic tunes.
