Leonard Cohen was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Leonard Cohen and New Skin For The Old Ceremony together. While no new Leonard Cohen album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1974 tour in Europe. Since completing 1974’s ‘Is This What You Wanted’, Leonard Cohen fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Exciting stuff.
Chelsea Hotel N.2 hits the heart. Lover Lover Lover is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Musically Field Commander Cohen is superior to other tracks in New Skin For The Old Ceremony. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. There Is A War is marvelous song though, very addictive. Simple and heartfelt closing track A Singer Must Die closes New Skin For The Old Ceremony on a high note. Voice and instruments in I Tried To Leave You complement each other. Opening track Who By Fire shows the best of Leonard Cohen. In Take This Longing you won’t find any flashy solos. Leaving Green Sleeves is absolutely incredible.
