Since completing 1969’s ‘Bird On A Wire’, Leonard Cohen fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Leonard Cohen was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Leonard Cohen and Songs From A Room together. Ivan Grach has compared writing for Leonard Cohen’s new album to that on ‘Songs From A Room’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Some of the arrangements found on Songs From A Room are surprisingly edgy. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. The Partisan has a fun tempo. Seems So Long Ago, Nancy defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. The Old Revolution is nothing but pure genius. The Butcher is a marvelous song and it grows on you. You Know Who I Am has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Lady Midnight is one of the more up-tempo songs on Songs From A Room. I can’t stop humming along Tonight Will Be Fine.
