‘7′ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Since completing 1981’s ‘Benny Bullfrog’, Madness fulfilled their contract with Capitol Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Self-described as Punk with lots of words, Madness comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. This is what good Punk should be.
Cardiac arrest good vocals. Day on the town is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Grey day gives taste of what makes Madness special as a musician. The song feels complete. Mrs Hutchinson can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Madness is all about. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Promises promises is astounding. In Shut up it becomes nowhere more obvious that Madness has yet to define own style. Sign of the times is a exquisite sing-along. The opium eaters make listening to Madness like being in some sort of time warp. Tomorrow’s dream have really caught my ear and imagination. When dawn arrives is the more seemingly obscure song on 7 that bear up best to repeated listening.
