This is the first studio album from Michael McDonald since bad diagnosis in 1982. eight years ago, Michael McDonald briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near)”. It has been eight years Michael McDonald’ last studio CD, “If That’s What It Takes” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. Another great offering from Michael McDonald.
It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near), which shows, blatantly, how much Michael McDonald has evolved as a singer. I like Love Lies because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think I Gotta Try is my favorite song on If That’s What It Takes. This is one hell of a track. That’s Why is possibly the best song Michael McDonald has come up. In If That’s What It Takes it becomes nowhere more obvious that Michael McDonald has yet to define own style. No Such Luck which is my favorite is a truly Michael McDonald sounding song. I can’t stop humming along Losin’ End. I believe Believe In It is one of the most marvelous, heartfelt songs ever written.
