Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Peter Hammill on ‘Pushing Thirty’. Lead single “Pushing Thirty” and “The Second Hand” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. While no new Peter Hammill album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1978 tour in Europe. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
Peter Hammill offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Trappings is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. The opening track The Mousetrap (Caught In) is very much like you would expect from other albums. Energy Vampires is a cool sing-along. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Peter Hammill. The Future Now - another great track from the The Future Now album. The sound in Still In The Dark is really warm and Peter Hammill’s signature voice is still very much present. A great put together song. A Motor-Bike In Afrika is a very catchy tune. The Cut is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Palinurus (Castaway) is one of the coolest songs Peter Hammill has ever recorded.
