This disc has all of the essential Phil Coulter classics. Self-described as New Age with lots of words, Phil Coulter comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Classic Tranquility isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. One of Phil Coulter’s best albums yet.
Simple and heartfelt closing track Mary From Dungloe closes Classic Tranquility on a high note. Overall a nice softer song. Vocals of Phil Coulter in The Old Man really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Carrickfergus has a fun tempo. Phil Coulter is hitting on all cylinders in Buachaill On Eirne (Come By The Hills). Steal Away (3:08) - awsome. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. My Lagan Love one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. The Spinning Wheel without a doubt is the standout song of Classic Tranquility. Maggie is simple, dignified and effective, Phil Coulter refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Scorn Not His Simplicity is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Lake Of Shadows - arguably the best track on Classic Tranquility album. The Wind In The Willows is so unique, as each one of the songs is. The Town I Loved So Well - This is a very lively song.
