Since completing 1978’s ‘Mantra I’, Popol Vuh fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This eleven-song debut EP shows the promise that Popol Vuh has. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Popol Vuh on ‘Mantra I’. Such great and happy songs.
Morning Sun is the album’s biggest hit, I think. After few listenings I started to like Venus Principle more and more. From the moment you listen to Mantra I - Choir you’re hooked. In Die Nacht Der Himmel Popol Vuh spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Der Ruf Der Rohrflote presents the cool mix of instruments on Nosferatu On The Way To A Little Way. To A Little Way is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Nosferatu On The Way To A Little Way have ended. Through Pains To Heaven - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. On The Way pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Zwiesprache Der Rohrflote Mit Der Sangerin is the gorgeous blend of moody yet optimistic tunes.
