Old Friends, New Friends isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. On Old Friends, New Friends album, Ralph Towner have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. It’s natural for Ralph Towner to take a stab at ‘New Moon’ considering her long-professed love for Depeche Mode. One of Ralph Towner’s best albums yet.
Lyrics of Yesterday and Long Ago are precise and evocative. When listening to Celeste, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Special Delivery is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Ralph Towner released so far. Music in Kupala is gorgeous as in all tracks of Old Friends, New Friends. Beneath An Evening Sky is a striking and quite long song.
