After debuting at No. 1 last week, Retro - Various Artists’s album I Grandi Interpreti Anni (1960) falls to No. 2 with 824,000, a sales slide of 78%. Lead single “Mia” and “Legata ad un granello di sabbia” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I am not a real Retro music type of person, but i have to admit ‘I Grandi Interpreti Anni (1960)’ really is amazing. I Grandi Interpreti Anni (1960) touched my soul like nothing else.
Legata ad un granello di sabbia which is my favorite is a truly Retro - Various Artists sounding song. The first time I listened to Bianchi cristalli sireni I was struck by its gorgeous sound. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Dolci canzoni is my favorite song on I Grandi Interpreti Anni (1960). This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Torpedo is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Sapore di sale is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Gli occhi miei is Retro - Various Artists’s best work in years. Pensiero d amore is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Come prima stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Se stasera sono qui is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Retro - Various Artists has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Album opener Che sara is a bright, upbeat ditty. Still going through I Grandi Interpreti Anni (1960) and coming to appreciate Perdonala more and more with every listen.
