John Digester has compared writing for Rod Stewart’s new album to that on ‘Smiler’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This is the first studio album from Rod Stewart since bad diagnosis in 1974. Rod Stewart was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Rod Stewart and Smiler together. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Rod Stewart ever.
Lochinvar is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Farewell is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Get Smiler and turn on Sailor if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Bring It On Home To Me/You Send Me is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Excellent vocals and musical performances. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Man which is my favorite is a truly Rod Stewart sounding song. Dixie Toot gets you up and jumping. I can’t stop humming along Hard Road. I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face [Instrumental] make listening to Rod Stewart like being in some sort of time warp. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Girl From The North Country, which shows, blatantly, how much Rod Stewart has evolved as a singer. Mine For Me is just simply stunning.
