Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane and Mahoney’s Last Stand together. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane has. While no new Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1976 tour in Europe. I wish that “Mahoney’s Last Stand” album was instrumental.
Some call C & W Number from Mahoney’s Last Stand as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane is one of artists that allow his songs like Anymore For Anymore to stand on their own and be heard. Safety Pin Queen is one of the more up-tempo songs on Mahoney’s Last Stand. Insurance is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. From the moment you listen to Just For A Moment you’re hooked. Rooster Funeral is cool song though, very addictive. Music in Woody’s Thing is exquisite as in all tracks of Mahoney’s Last Stand. The sound in Hay Tumble is really warm and Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane’s signature voice is still very much present. Music and lyrics of ‘mona’ The Blues creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Just For A Moment (Instrumental) presents the amazing mix of instruments on Mahoney’s Last Stand. This is one hell of a track. Album opener I’ll Fly Away is a bright, upbeat ditty. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. From The Late To The Early (3:40) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. I find myself hearing bits of Tonight’s Number here and there throughout my waking hours. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Mahoney’s Last Stand.
