Since Roy Buchanan last CD (Second Album) on Blue Note Records back in 1973, I have felt a massive void in my life. There is so much to love about Roy Buchanan, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. ‘Second Album’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
In After Hours it becomes nowhere more obvious that Roy Buchanan has yet to define own style. Five String Blues is perfect. Although Thank You Lord is very melodic it is far from sad. Treat Her Right - Check out that bassline! I Won’t Tell You No Lies is probably the most interesting track on Second Album. Tribute To Elmore James - This is a very lively song. She Once Lived Here (2:58) - awsome.
