When you buy a Silly Wizard album, you know exactly what you’re getting! I am not a real Folk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Early Years’ really is amazing. twelve years ago, Silly Wizard briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Jenny Gray’s Whiskey”. This album is a scorcher!
Jenny Gray’s Whiskey is a excellent song and it grows on you. It took me a little time but I ended up loving The Wind That Shakes The Barley - The Ale Is Dear. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. My Love’s In Germany is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Put Election Jig into car stereo for your highway driving One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Heron Election Ballad No. 4 because the melody in the chorus is so good. I can’t stop playing Atholl Braes - The Drunken Piper. Music and lyrics of The Shearing creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. The Fairy Dance is probably the most interesting track on Early Years. So much energy, so exciting a sound.
