Alive and Well In Paris carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. This album has some very good songs like White Kite and EOS. Alive and Well In Paris isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. To me Soft Machine is the best band ever.
EOS is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. A unique and uplifting song. Odds Bullets and Blades Pt II is the more seemingly obscure song on Alive and Well In Paris that bear up best to repeated listening. No Soft Machine song has come close to capturing my attention as Song Of The Sunbird did. After about the third Puffin listen through, I began to believe this song is Soft Machine’s essence. Some call Huffin from Alive and Well In Paris as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. The Nodder is a exquisite, simple song by Soft Machine at the top of his game. Surrounding Silence is a very catchy tune. Soft Space is probably the highlight of the album.
