After seeing Blasphemy, I had to have a good Steel Pulse cd. nine years ago, Steel Pulse briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Biko’s Kindred Lament”. Since Steel Pulse last CD (Tribute To The Martyrs) on Mute Records back in 1979, I have felt a massive void in my life. Tribute To The Martyrs is the best essence of Steel Pulse.
One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Biko’s Kindred Lament because the melody in the chorus is so good. Blew our minds when we first heard Uncle George. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Babylon Makes The Rules from the beginning to the end. You have to get essence of the Tribute To The Martyrs’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Charming song, great melody. Only one song from Tribute To The Martyrs named Sound System really got me. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener.
