After seeing This Wheel’s On Fire, I had to have a good The Byrds cd. For older fans Dr.Byrds and Mr.Hyde will put a massive smile accross your face. Lead single “This Wheel’s On Fire” and “Old Blue” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Such great and happy songs.
I like the idea behind Old Blue. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Child Of The Universe is a bit different from The Byrds stereotypical stuff. Some call Nashville West from Dr.Byrds and Mr.Hyde as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Drug Store Truck Drivin’ Man gives taste of what makes The Byrds special as a musician. King Apathy III is astounding. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. After you’ve listened to Bad Night At The Whiskey, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Stanley’s Song. Lay Lady Lay (alternate Version) is pretty funky and mellow. I came to like This Wheel’s On Fire (version One). The Byrds is hitting on all cylinders in Medley My Back Pages B.j. Blues Baby What You Want Me. Nashville West (alternate Version - Nashville Recording) is exquisite work of The Byrds.
