Self-described as Country: Country-Rock with lots of words, The Byrds comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. After seeing Mr. Tambourine Man, I had to have a good The Byrds cd. seven years ago, The Byrds briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better”. The Byrds “Mr. Tambourine Man” is an amazing album.
The first time I listened to I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better I was struck by its astounding sound. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. If you are a The Byrds fan, you will love You Won’t Have To Cry. Here Without You actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on The Byrds’s face. The Bells Of Rhymney is gorgeous work of The Byrds. All I Really Want To Do have really caught my ear and imagination. Nice and different song. I hope to keep hearing The Byrds works for a long time to come. I think Don’t Doubt Yourself, Babe is the best song The Byrds has ever done. Chimes Of Freedom is a great opener for Mr. Tambourine Man. We’ll Meet Again is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. This song stands out greatly from the others. I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better (alternate Version) is the funkiest number on the album. It’s No Use (alternate Version) is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. You Won’t Have To Cry (alternate Version) is so unique, as each one of the songs is. All I Really Want To Do (single Version) is the cool blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. The opening track You and Me is very much like you would expect from other albums.
