Give the people what they want isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. There is so much to love about The Kinks, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. ‘Give the people what they want’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. This is what good Rock should be.
Give the people what they want is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. From the moment you listen to Killer’s eyes you’re hooked. Predictable is a medium tempo tune. One listen to the sheer beauty of Add it up was all I needed. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. The Kinks breathes new life into the music in Yo-yo. Back to the front is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. A little bit of abuse is the album’s biggest hit, I think. In Better things it becomes nowhere more obvious that The Kinks has yet to define own style.
