I am not a real funk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Gold’ really is amazing. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of The Ohio Players energies, virtually a rebirth. Self-described as funk with lots of words, The Ohio Players comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. The Ohio Players is one of my favourite bands of all time.
This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Best song on the album, love it. Fopp is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Far East Mississippi is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Gold. Skin Tight is really a nice song to relax and listen too. No The Ohio Players song has come close to capturing my attention as Fire did. Sweet Sticky Thing is a good listen every once in a while. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of The Ohio Players. I like the idea behind Only a Child Can Love. Who’d She Coo? is one of the more up-tempo songs on Gold.
