Now signed to The Residents’s Mute Records, the title track from second album “The Commercial Album” leads The Residents’s back-to-school campaign. This disc has all of the essential The Residents classics. It has been six years The Residents’ last studio CD, “The Commercial Album” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in The Commercial Album. Picnic Boy is astounding. End Of Home is a bit of a show-tune. Amber is a very catchy tune. I like Japanese Watercolor because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Secrets is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. In Die In Terror the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. So much energy, so exciting a sound.My Second Wife - This is a very lively song. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Vocals of The Residents in Suburban Bathers really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Once Dimples And Toes gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. The Nameless Souls has a fun tempo. This track is a great song that still never gets old. I find myself hearing bits of Act Of Being Polite here and there throughout my waking hours. Medicine Man - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Tragic Bells - A nice song. Loss Of Innocence is really a nice song to relax and listen too. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Ups And Downs is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Possessions is probably the highlight of the album. Give It To Someone Else motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Phantom is such a amazing and optimistic song that things can get just better. Less Not More is probably the most interesting track on The Commercial Album. My Work Is So Behind is the first taste of the new album. Birds In The Trees is the most memorable and amazing. From the moment you listen to Handfull Of Desire you’re hooked. The Residents emotions are reflected through Moisture. Love Is… is The Residents’s best work in years. Troubled Man - A strong beat. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Loneliness is a striking and quite long song. Nice Old Man is a strong cut, one of many. The Talk Of Creatures on The Commercial Album is solid and easy to listen to. Fingertips - a classic song. Some of the arrangements found on The Commercial Album are surprisingly edgy. Margaret Freeman is the more seemingly obscure song on The Commercial Album that bear up best to repeated listening. I like the idea behind The Coming Of The Crow. Strong, powerful vocals of The Residents in When We Were Young are very impressive. Shut Up Shut Up rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. And I Was Alone is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after The Commercial Album have ended. Theme For An American TV Show is a medium tempo tune. We’re A Happy Family/Bali Ha’i is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. The Sleeper is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Boy In Love is simple, dignified and effective, The Residents refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. I hope to keep hearing The Residents works for a long time to come. Listening to This Is A Man’s Man’s Man’s World you can hear that The Residents has still amazing chemistry with band members. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin.
