After seeing Illuminated 666, I had to have a good Throbbing Gristle cd. Throbbing Gristle’s debut, ‘Rafters / Psychic Rally’, does not fit easily into one genre. This twelve-song debut EP shows the promise that Throbbing Gristle has. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Betrayed
Betrayed pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Womb Of Corruption - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. After about the third Very Friendly listen through, I began to believe this song is Throbbing Gristle’s essence. As always, Throbbing Gristle’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Playground - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Playground is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Auschwitz is possibly the best song Throbbing Gristle has come up. Rafters / Psychic Rally couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Devil’s Gateway. Hastings sets the tone for the entire album. The sound of Discipline is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created.
