Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Top Billboard’s new album to that on ‘Billboard Top 100 - 1971′ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This album has some very good songs like Three Dog Night - Joy to World and Rod Stewart - Maggie May. Since completing 1971’s ‘Three Dog Night - Joy to World’, Top Billboard fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This is one of Top Billboard best albums
Rod Stewart - Maggie May is a striking and quite long song. Album opener Carole King - It’s Too Late is a bright, upbeat ditty. I think Osmonds - One Bad Apple is the best song Top Billboard has ever done. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Bee Gees - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. Raiders - Indian Reservation (the Lament Of Cheroke) stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Donny Osmond - Go Away Little Girl - I like this one. One listen to the sheer beauty of John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads was all I needed. Top Billboard sings his heart out in Temptations - Just My Imagination. Tony Orlando & Dawn - Knock Three Times - This is a very lively song. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Al Green - Tired Of Being Alone is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Honey Cone - Want Ads is pretty funky and mellow. I now have Undisputed Truth - Smiling Faces Sometimes as one of my personal favorites. I loved Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose - Treat Her Like a Lad the first time I heard it. Excellent vocals and musical performances. James Taylor - You’ve Got a Friend as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Top Billboard allows each song to breathe and flourish. You have to get essence of the Lee Michaels - Do You Know What I Mean’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Song Joan Baez - Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is actually a funny song. Musically Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On is superior to other tracks in Billboard Top 100 - 1971. Paul & Linda Mccartney - Uncle Albert-Admiral Halsey - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Bill Withers - Ain’t No Sunshine is absolutely incredible. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. This is probably my favorite song on the album. The song feels complete. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Music of Grass Roots - Temptation Eyes is gentle, never overbearing. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. George Harrison - My Sweet Lord - For me, this is the best of the album. Donny Osmond - Sweet and Innocent - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Ocean - Put Your Hand in Hand hits the heart. Daddy Dewdrop - Chick-a-Boom is nothing but pure genius. Carpenters - for All We Know is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Sammi Smith - Help Me Make It Through Night - Okay, I just talked about depth. Carpenters - Rainy Days and Mondays - Top Billboard first major hit. Cher - Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves is simple, dignified and effective, Top Billboard refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Jackson 5 - Never Can Say Goodbye - A classic Top Billboard track. I came to like Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden. Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Don’t Pull Your Love is one of my favorite songs by Top Billboard. I believe Ringo Starr & George Harrison - It Don’t Come Easy is one of the most marvelous, heartfelt songs ever written. Once Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Mr Bojangles gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Fuzz - I Love You for All Seasons has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Dramatics - Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Carly Simon - That’s Way I’ve Always Heard It Shoul is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Stevie Wonder - if You Really Love Me has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Aretha Franklin - Spanish Harlem is probably one of Top Billboard’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Helen Reddy - I Don’t Know How to Love Him is really the reason why I recommend buying Billboard Top 100 - 1971. Osmonds - Yo-Yo is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Aretha Franklin - Bridge Over Troubled Water rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. I can’t stop humming along Partridge Family - Doesn’t Somebody Want to Be Wanted. Tommy James - Draggin’ Line is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Ike & Tina Turner - Proud Mary is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Chicago - Beginnings is the albums biggest surprise. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Billboard Top 100 - 1971 is Bells - Stay Awhile. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Overall a nice softer song. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Bread - If is the more seemingly obscure song on Billboard Top 100 - 1971 that bear up best to repeated listening. From the moment you listen to Marvin Gaye - Mercy, Mercy Me (the Ecology) you’re hooked. First time I heard Brewer & Shipley - One Toke Over Line was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with 8th Day - She’s Not Just Another Woman. After you’ve listened to Freda Payne - Bring Boys Home, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Rare Earth - I Just Want to Celebrate is the first taste of the new album. Delaney & Bonnie & Friends - Never Ending Song Of Love still maintains something of a specific flourish. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Mac & Katie Kissoon - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep good vocals. Music and lyrics of Andy Williams - Love Story (Where Do I Begin) creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Cat Stevens - Wild World is astounding. The sound in Jerry Reed - When You’re Hot, You’re Hot is really warm and Top Billboard’s signature voice is still very much present. Opening track Beginning Of End - Funky Nassau shows the best of Top Billboard. Voice of Top Billboard in Olivia Newton-John - if Not for You is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. King Floyd - Groove Me has a fun tempo. Bobby Goldsboro - Watching Scotty Grow is one of these floating songs. Matthews’ Southern Comfort - Woodstock - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. I like to sing along with Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. When I listen to Fortunes - Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Who - Won’t Get Fooled Again is one of the best records ever. Denise Lasalle - Trapped by a Thing Called Love is the song that really did it for me. Jackson 5 - Mama’s Pearl is simply gorgeous. Buoys - Timothy one of the best in my collection. Partridge Family - I Woke Up in Love This Morning is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. I love the melodic melody of Isaac Hayes - Theme from Shaft and to this day it makes me feel good. It’s such an underrated song. Neil Diamond - I Am I Said is a medium tempo tune. What sets Paul Stookey - Wedding Song (There Is Love) apart is Top Billboard’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Nice and different song. Doors - Love Her Madly is a fine track on any terms. Such hits like Richie Havens - Here Comes Sun will leave you hooked. Don’t judge Wadsworth Mansion - Sweet Mary on the first listening. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Brenda & Tabulations - Right On Tip Of My Tongu from the beginning to the end. 5th Dimension - One Less Bell to Answer is the amazing blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Best song on the album, love it. Perry Como - It’s Impossible - A catchy, upbeat tune.
