This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Tower Of Power. Lead single “Oakland Stroke…” and “Don’t Change Horses (In The Middle Of A Stream)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I am not a real Jazz: Funk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Back To Oakland’ really is amazing. This is what good Jazz: Funk should be.
Voice of Tower Of Power in Don’t Change Horses (In The Middle Of A Stream) is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Just When We Start Makin’ It is a gorgeous song and it grows on you. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Overall a nice softer song. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Time Will Tell. Music of Man From The Past is gentle, never overbearing. Tower Of Power allows each song to breathe and flourish. I Got The Chop make listening to Tower Of Power like being in some sort of time warp. Tower Of Power is one of artists that allow his songs like Below Us, All The City Lights to stand on their own and be heard. …Oakland Stroke as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature.
