Since completing 1981’s ‘Sons Of Satan’, Venom fulfilled their contract with EMI Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Venom has. Lead single “Sons Of Satan” and “Welcome To Hell” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. IT makes me wanna dance!
Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. The opening track Schizoid is very much like you would expect from other albums. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Mayhem With Mercy, which shows, blatantly, how much Venom has evolved as a singer. Poison is one of my favorite songs by Venom. Live Like An Angel (Die Like A Devil) - A catchy, upbeat tune. Witching Hour is a striking and quite long song. One Thousand Days Of Sodom is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Song Angel Dust is actually a funny song. I can’t stop humming along In League With Satan. What sets Red Light Fever apart is Venom’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Only one song from Welcome To Hell named Angel Dust (From Lead Weight) really got me. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Live Like An Angel (7” Version) which is my favorite is a truly Venom sounding song. A unique and uplifting song. In Nomine Satanas (7” Single B) is a cool song and it grows on you. Angel Dust (Demo) is a excellent sing-along. Blew our minds when we first heard Raise The Dead (Demo). Red Light Fever (Demo) makes a person feel exquisite. The sound of Welcome To Hell (Demo) is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Bitch Witch (Outtake) is one of the best records ever. Nice and different song.
