For older fans Legend of the Jivaro will put a massive smile accross your face. Yma Sumac was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Yma Sumac and Legend of the Jivaro together. It’s natural for Yma Sumac to take a stab at ‘Jivaro’ considering her long-professed love for Universal Soul. If you love Yma Sumac as much as I do, then Yma Sumac Legend of the Jivaro is the CD for you!
Legend of the Jivaro couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Esjollo: Whip Dance. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Yawar (Blood Festival). Shou Condor (Giant Condor) is a gorgeous sing-along. Sauma (Magic) rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. Excellent vocals and musical performances. I’ve found myself listening to Sansa (Victory Song) back to back and back many times. Don’t judge Hampi (Medicine) on the first listening. Sumac Soratena (Beautiful Jungle Girl) is a striking and quite long song. Overall a nice softer song. Batanga-Hailli: Festival I just LOVE this mix! Wanka (The Seven Winds) - This one is lively and fun.
