It’s natural for ZECCHINO D ORO to take a stab at ‘Biribiribindi’ considering her long-professed love for Green Grey. Lead single “Biribiribindi” and “Cavallino peruviano” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 1977’s ‘Biribiribindi’, ZECCHINO D ORO fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. ZECCHINO D ORO “20 Zecchino D’ Oro” is an amazing album.
Opening track Cavallino peruviano shows the best of ZECCHINO D ORO. Dai balla il syrtaki is the albums biggest surprise. First time I heard Hagi Fir was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.I castelli di Brisighella is probably the most interesting track on 20 Zecchino D’ Oro. After about the third I pescatori del Canada listen through, I began to believe this song is ZECCHINO D ORO’s essence. Music in Nel duemila is exquisite as in all tracks of 20 Zecchino D’ Oro. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on 20 Zecchino D’ Oro. Some of the arrangements found on 20 Zecchino D’ Oro are surprisingly edgy. Samba della mia terra is a medium tempo tune. I have all of ZECCHINO D ORO’s tracks and La buona volont is probably the most his introspective effort. …Finch non cado dal sonno is the albums biggest surprise.
