Blues for Two isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. twelve years ago, Zoot Sims with Joe Pass briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Dindi”. It’s natural for Zoot Sims with Joe Pass to take a stab at ‘Blues for 2′ considering her long-professed love for Army of Lovers. Zoot Sims with Joe Pass is one of my favourite bands of all time.
Dindi is a bit different from Zoot Sims with Joe Pass stereotypical stuff. I find myself hearing bits of Pennies from Heaven here and there throughout my waking hours. Poor Butterfly the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Some of the arrangements found on Blues for Two are surprisingly edgy. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Takeoff defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. The opening track Remember is very much like you would expect from other albums.
